What constitutes the observation by an artist, and that by a curator?
Where do the differences and continuities lie among the vantage points of the various players in contemporary art?
In this event, we welcome Meruro Washida as our guest to discuss the differing perspectives of artists and curators, as well as approaches to understanding Japan as a nation and a state of mind. The conversation will further explore, through the exhibited works, how art can engage with questions of contemporaneity and historicity, locality and universality.

The 2020s, when politics becomes aestheticized and art becomes politicized.
What does it mean for an artist to respond to contemporary society, and what significance does such a response hold?
The second talk in this series welcomes artist Aya Momose, who has consistently explored the political dimensions of the body and the voice, to reflect on the relationship between art and politics.
By delving into Momose’s practice and concerns, this event will illuminate both the differences and the affinities between her work and the political dimensions expressed in the works of the exhibiting artists. At the intersection of politics and art, how does the body respond and create? This discussion will consider the boundaries of politics and art, and explore the finitude and creativity of the body.

In this talk, we welcome philosopher Takumi Fukuo as the guest to explore the connection between art and worldviews—not merely as speculation, but as an attempt at articulation.
Through the practices and materials of the exhibiting artists, we will examine how philosophical thought emerges within the field of art. At the boundary where linguistic differences intersect with the passivity and activity of movement, how is art spoken of, and how is it received? This dialogue will open a space to explore the intersection of philosophy and art.
